The Gymnasium

One of the many benefits of renting our space from Holy Trinity is the use of their gymnasium. Regardless of the weather, we are able to provide opportunities for children to be physically active all year. The gym is located just a few feet from the building and we are able to use the gym on a daily basis.

The importance of physical activity

At the early ages of 3 and 4 children need many opportunities for physical activity. This promotes good health and skill-building including: posture development, spatial awareness, and encouraging muscle development that will continue throughout childhood, adolescence and adulthood. At this age, children are developing their gross motor skills; they are learning to use the large muscles in their legs, arms, and trunk to run, jump, catch, throw, and kick. Providing a variety of gross motor activities leads to the development of fine motor skills that are needed for their future educational/learning experiences.

Some of the activities/games the children will participate in includes:
parachute games, obstacle courses, running, dancing, and using balls of various sizes and weights. Each gross motor activity will focus on at least two of the four movement concepts: body, effort, space and relationship.
