Observations

Taking time

The success of your child in preschool will be enhanced by your attitude at home. We cannot emphasize enough how important a few minutes of undivided attention by both parents is to a child.

Foods and Behavior

It is our observation that foods with high sugar content or additives can affect a child's behavior. For this reason we ask that you limit the amount of these foods, especially before coming to preschool.

Sleep

Adequate sleep and a set routine are also very important for young children. These will make a big difference in your child's ability to get along with others, and get the most out of the experiences being offered to your child.

Order

Because we will stress order (everything in its place), this should also be practiced at home. Accomplishment of small tasks is the beginning of a growth process that will stay with your child through adulthood.

Television

Numerous studies have been done about the effect of TV on children. We have observed many children who are watching programs not appropriate for their age groups. Please realize that these children understand much more than we give them credit for and many of the programs are very scary for them. They often have a need to play out the violence they see, especially the "super heroes" they constantly imitate to the exclusion of other play. We have also noticed that children who watch TV have problems distinguishing between real and make believe. You can help by reassuring them that the things that happen on TV are not necessarily what happen in real life, i.e., guns and killing, car stunts, etc. Too much TV also stifles creativity and language development as well as social development and interaction. While there are some good educational programs for children, good simple toys and books in place of TV can stimulate children to be much more creative and intelligent.
